Jayson Taylor
Co-Owner, CEO & Creative Director

I am, at heart, a storyteller. The passion to capture people’s lives through sight and sound is the driving force behind every project I undertake. I believe strongly in uncovering the human element that exists at the core of every story. The beauty that surrounds us, the people that move us, these are the stories that I am inspired to tell.

It was while on a course in Copenhagen in 2006 that I found my voice as a storyteller. Immersed in the then-emerging field of multimedia, I knew immediately I had found my life’s work and I returned to Canada to introduce the concept to colleagues in the newspaper industry. After building a multimedia team at The Globe & Mail, I worked as Producer for two video series - Talking to the Taliban and Behind the Veil - both of which won Emmy Awards.

I am passionate about uncovering the stories that others overlook and working with companies, governments and individuals who believe in the power of making an emotional connection with an audience. I build partnerships, thrive on creative collaboration and value a team approach to projects.

I am motivated by a desire to build the creative economy of our region and to leave a legacy for the next generation.

At the newspaper I was responsible for the creation of newsroom-produced video content and for the training of staff; the redesign of The Chronicle Herald; the launch, design and art direction of Herald Magazine; the production of various multimedia projects including Nova Scotia Burning, Crossroads and Titanic 100; the design of new custom content magazines including Duggers magazine, Business Voice and Izaak, the IWK’s magazine.

THE GLOBE & MAIL -  2002 to 2010

Multimedia Editor/Producer

I started my career at the Globe and Mail in 2002 as Assistant Photo Editor. By 2007, I began to implement the newspaper’s video strategy, creating a profitable new revenue stream for our online business unit. After training staff, I was responsible for the creation of the GlobeDocs brand which brought international recognition to the Globe as a go-to place for multimedia journalism. Together with my team, we produced award-winning GlobeDocs including The Art of Being Leonard Cohen, Boy in the Moon, Born of War, In Memorandum, Dear Sweetheart, Talking to the Taliban and Behind the Veil.

NATIONAL POST - 1998 to 2002

I was one of the original staff members hired to launch the National Post. I was part of an IT team who turned empty offices into a newsroom at one of Canada’s national newspapers. Responsibilities included training pre-press staff; creation of the PDF backup system; training executives to file remotely; developing an intranet site; testing and evaluating new software; desktop support for editorial and pre-press.

THE HALIFAX DAILY NEWS - 1995 to 1998
